Compensating for Kylian Mbappé’s departure with the return of Xavi Simons on loan, the solution seemed obvious to many Paris Saint-Germain supporters. But very quickly, it seemed that this hypothesis had taken a hit. One of the reasons, according to our information, came from the discussions held between the Dutch player and the Parisian staff. No special status and no guarantee of playing time could be promised to Xavi Simons.
Happy with his season with RB Leipzig, where he established himself as a key starter, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder was attracted by the idea of continuing at this club, playing two full seasons with the same team for the first time. It still had to suit all parties. At the same time, Bayern Munich and Manchester United were ready to recruit the player, with a big added value for PSG. But given the player’s desire, and with the prospect of getting him back or selling him in 2025, the Parisian club had no reason to block such a move.
Xavi Simons absolutely wanted to come back
The Dutchman’s loan was therefore made official this Monday. And he was able to give his first words to the club’s official website, explaining his career choice. “I got everything I wanted at Leipzig. I joined a great team and felt that everyone trusted me. I was able to develop as a player and as an individual. RB Leipzig is the ideal place for that. In addition, the club values me very much and has made it clear to me in recent months that they want to sign me. They have put together a clear and concise plan for the coming season. We want to be at the top of the Bundesliga and the Cup again and stay in the Champions League for as long as possible. We want to do better than last year in all these competitions. We will start the season with a strong squad again, which the club and the technical team have also made clear to me.”
And Xavi Simons concludes: “I am extremely motivated to continue to improve and to contribute to the club’s success. I feel at home here in Leipzig and I am extremely happy to be able to play for this club and for these fans for another year. I am ready to make history!” This new loan therefore suits all parties. It remains to be seen what Xavi Simons and PSG will want in 2025.
