Last night was a near-perfect outing for Barcelona as they secured a 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid, with perhaps the only blemish being Xavi Hernandez’s sending-off.

With the scoreline at 0-1 after Joao Félix scored from Robert Lewandowski’s pass, the Barcelona coach angrily protested that a foul by Pablo Barrios on Ilkay Gundogan was not punished with a caution.

It resulted in the first yellow card for the Barcelona manager in the 41st minute.

Minutes later, the referee called a foul on Gündogan despite having touched the ball on the edge of the visitors’ box. Xavi again raised his voice and the head referee did not mince his words and gave him a red card.

Now Mundo Deportivo reports that Xavi will be suspended for two games minimum, meaning he will not be on the touchline for the games against Las Palmas and Cadiz after the international break.

Referee Sánchez Martínez recorded the incident in his report and, according to what happened, it seems that it was the fourth official Juan Antonio Campos who informed the match official of Xavi’s complaints.

“In the 42nd minute, the coach Xavier Hernández Creus was sent off for the following reason: For making technical remarks about one of my decisions, shouting, making inconsiderate gestures and after having been previously warned by the 4th referee.”

“In the 41st minute, the coach Xavier Hernandez was cautioned for the following reason: For making observations of a technical nature to one of my decisions.”

This is Xavi’s second red card of the season after he was sent off on the very first day of the season against Getafe.

In his absence, his brother and assistant manager Oscar Hernandez will take charge of the team from the sidelines in the matches against Las Palmas and Cadiz.
