With Xavi Hernandez now confirmed to continue as manager until next season, planning for the summer is already underway.
Of the many decisions that Barcelona will have to take in the coming weeks, the future of players currently out on loan will also be on the agenda.
The Blaugrana have as many as eight players away on loan currently and not all of them will have a continuity at the club.
Xavi will not count on Lenglet and Sergino Dest
Indeed, as per SPORT, Xavi is certain that he does not plan on counting two of the Barcelona loanees in the form of Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest.
Lenglet is currently on loan at Premier League club Aston Villa, where he has performed reasonably well, playing his part in helping Unai Emery’s side push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Despite that, though, Xavi does not count on the Frenchman, given that there is already an overbooking of central defenders in the squad.
Lenglet’s ‘revaluation’ at Villa is seen as a positive by Barcelona as it will help them get a decent fee from his sale. But there is no way back for the centre-half.
Dest’s situation complicated
Xavi will also be not counting on Sergino Dest, currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven, with the defender himself having previously ruled out a return if the 44-year-old continued as the manager.
The USMNT star’s situation has become more complicated following a serious knee injury he sustained, which has ruled him out for nine months at least.
PSV were open to signing him permanently by activating the €10 million buy clause in the loan agreement. However, following his injury, they now wish to negotiate a lower fee for him.
