SPOILER ALERT: This post spoils the entirety of XO, Kitty Season 2.

XO, Kitty matched Anna Cathcart’s main character Kitty with several other potential love interests by the end of Season 1 after she went to school at KISS in South Korea in part to be closer Minyeong Choi’s Dae.

Dae and his best friend Min Ho, who confessed his love for Kitty on a plane at the end of Season 1, have to work through some obstacles this season when it comes to Kitty’s return to KISS as well as some other curveballs life gives them.

“I do understand Min Ho, but I do think that Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) made the move at a wrong timing,” Choi told Deadline. “But I do understand him, because when you love someone and when you’re into someone, sometimes you make mistakes and sometimes you can’t control things. So probably that’s why Dave forgives Min Ho because he knows how it feels like when he’s in love.”

“I agree with that,” Lee added. “I think that was really a sweet answer.”

The pair unpack their characters’ development this season from Dae’s singing to Min Ho meeting the notorious Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) the their hopes for a third season in the below interview.

DEADLINE: Min-Yeong, did you have singing in mind when you signed onto the show back in season one?

MINYEONG CHOI: Not at all.

DEADLINE: Okay, so did you train for that? Can you take me through that process?

SANG HEON LEE: He didn’t need to train.

CHOI: I am constantly training my vocals all the time not even when performing or in a show. I did not specifically train for this, but I did have a few sessions with a coach for the song[s] and just talking about how I should be recorded, because recording it was not something I know much, because I just always train for live performance.

DEADLINE: Sang Heon I have to ask about when Min Ho interacts with Noah Centineo’s character, Peter Kavinsky. Is he trying to impress Peter? He is the only one that calls kitty Covey. Can you talk more about those scenes?

LEE: I think Min Ho was first sort of intimidated by the presence of Peter because he heard so much about this person to a point where he’s maybe a tad bit jealous. That’s why he felt that he had to keep his guard up when he first shook his hand and everything. And then you can see that he slightly warmed up and became a little fuzzy once he and Peter shared compliments to each other and a little bit of banter that you can probably see, and then that’s how they got close.

DEADLINE: I love the sparkly pen part too.

LEE: That was probably the best part, yeah. [Laughs]

DEADLINE: If the show gets a Season 3, where would you want to see your characters go with, hopefully, this big music tour?

LEE: Hopefully there’s more.

CHOI: Yeah, of course, hopefully there’s a Season 3. If there’s a season three, I would love to, as you said, I would love Dae to go on tour, or maybe not. I would love him to keep, like, keep his dreams and keep fighting for his love and different ways.

LEE: I have go input or opinion on this, to be honest, but I feel like, since they are doing a great job at the moment with the story, I expect the best again, if there is a Season 3.

DEADLINE: Sang Heon, there are a couple scenes you’re involved in that are callbacks to the first To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before  film, there’s the hot tub scene and the letter and when Kitty faints on the track. Is that signifying that you guys will end up getting together if Kitty and Min Ho are end game, what are your thoughts on that?

LEE: Well, I can definitely see why there is questions or theories behind that. But again, if people do believe that that’s how it would happen, then maybe that could happen. But honestly, I wouldn’t know. It wouldn’t be so surprising because what people saw from past films, and the whole reenacting of the scenes from those films. But at the same time, even if it does happen, it’s just very cute.

DEADLINE: Follow-up question for you. The finale ends with this super hopeful scene between Min Ho and Kitty. They don’t kiss, though. I’m wondering if that was like a conversation at all?

LEE: I didn’t really have much inptt behind [that]. I didn’t really think about, “Oh, should we kiss?” It was just about, I feel like, whatever happened on that last moment between Kitty and Min Ho was probably the best output because they both just talked about what they’re going through and what they might be doing. So maybe, it’s a good thing that they’re not rushing into things. A kiss really is quite a bit of a rush, so maybe slow it down a little bit.

DEADLINE: Did either of you have any input on the music this season? Min Young with your songs, or the soundtrack that you recommended?

CHOI: From the soundtrack. No, but the songs that I sang in the show, I did talk a lot with the showrunners and the directors about what kind of song I should sing, and which song I was gonna sing [in the finale].

LEE: I remember we were in your trailer, and we were like, [sorting motion] choosing.

CHOI: Oh yea, for the last finale song. I had a few options. And then, I was having a hard time. So I asked  Anna, Sang Heon, Anthony, Regan, everyone, so it helped a lot.
