Olympique de Marseille are in the process of completing the loan arrival of Argentinian hopeful Valentin Carboni, in what could become the biggest transfer in their history.
“Here we go!” With his usual formula, Fabrizio Romano sealed the end of the Valentin Carboni saga, with a happy outcome for Olympique de Marseille. The Phocéens will indeed offer themselves the 19-year-old Argentinian international, for a transfer that could prove historic.
Fabrizio Romano gives the details of the operation. It is a paid loan of 1 million euros, with a purchase option set at 35 million euros, plus 4 million euros of possible bonuses. In the “deal”, Inter Milan included a buyout clause of 40 million euros, to be able to recover its nugget if the player explodes at OM.
Carboni, OM’s biggest transfer?
These figures exceed the transfer fees of Dimitri Payet, Vitinha and Mason Greenwood, which could make Carboni the most expensive signing in OM’s history. We’re not there yet, since the player must of course prove that he is worth the amount of his purchase option. But it says a lot about this prospect who was loaned to Monza by Inter last season, and who was in the Argentina team that won the Copa America last June.
