Yobe State Government has approved the formation of a 10-member committee to address the implementation of the new national minimum wage for civil servants, following its recent approval by the Federal Government.
According to a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Thursday, October 17, 2024, the committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Baba Mallam Wali, with the State Head of Civil Service, Hamidu M. Alhaji, serving as Co-Chair.
The remaining individuals on the list will serve as members of the committee.
The statement read, “The committee members include the Commissioner of Finance, Mohammed Abatcha Geidam; the Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Mohammed Garba Gagiyo; the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ibrahim Adamu Jajere; and the State Accountant General.
“Other members are the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Mukhtar Musa Tarabutu, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Bulama Musa. The Permanent Secretary of Establishment, Shuaibu Ibrahim Amshi, and the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office of the Head of Service, Bukar Kilo, will serve as secretary and co-secretary, respectively.
“The committee’s terms of reference include developing strategies for the successful implementation of the new national minimum wage in the state. Additionally, the committee will assess the financial implications of implementing the new minimum wage at both the state and local government levels and make recommendations for government consideration.” d.
