Former President, Muhammadu Buhari
Former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has decried the recent terrorist attack on Yobe State that led to the loss of several lives.
In a Wednesday statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, the former president said the latest incident was a “dreadful reminder that communities supported by governments have more work to do in curbing the menace of the terrorists.”
Shehu said in a message to Governor Mai Mala, the Yobe State Council of Chiefs and the entire people of the state, Buhari prayed for the repose of those killed and called for strict response to those who commit these “monstrous acts.”
Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked Mafa village in Yobe State’s Tarmuwa Local Government Area on Sunday, looting and burning down shops and homes.
The spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Damaturu on Monday that they are “yet to ascertain the number of lives lost in the incident, which occurred at about 4 pm on Sunday in the remote village.”
He said the gunmen also dropped some fliers with Arabic inscriptions.
