In a bid to boost the agricultural sector, the Yobe State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, in partnership with the Hafsum-Agricultural Enterprises, has conducted a one-day training program for smallholder fish farmers, in Damaturu.
The training session was inaugurated on Thursday, at the Yobe Children’s Academy on Gashu’a Road, Damaturu.
Alhaji Ali Mustapha Goniri, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, emphasised that the training is a crucial component of the agricultural revitalisation initiative of the Yobe State Government.
Goniri reiterated the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to rejuvenate the agricultural sector to stimulate economic activities in the state.
He assured that the government will create a conducive environment to encourage the expansion of fish farming across the state.
During the event, Dr. Musa Abba Kollere, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, highlighted Yobe State’s abundant riverine resources across its political zones, making it ideal for aquaculture practices.
He emphasised that embracing fish farming will not only enhance food security but also reduce unemployment and drive economic growth in the state.
Thus, Kollere urged the participants, many of whom were retired civil servants to actively engage in fish farming and seize the opportunities in presents.
As part of the support package, each participant received 100 fingerlings, feeds, and a fish pond to kickstart their fish farming ventures.
