FC Barcelona are playing their traditional curtain-raiser for the new season, the Joan Gamper Trophy match, tonight against AC Milan.

Prior to the game though some of the players interacted with the media and highlighted what they are looking forward to in the upcoming season.

Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia motivated to win titles

Having recently just won the Olympic Gold Medal with Spain, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia are not part of the squad for tonight’s game but they expressed optimism for the upcoming campaign.

“Hopefully at the end of the season, we can win titles for the fans,” Cubarsi remarked via Mundo Deportivo.

Eric Garcia shared the same sentiment, noting a renewed sense of hope. He believes it will be a great year for the fans, who deserve success, and he hopes the team will end the season with trophies.

“There is a new air, an air of hope, we are all very convinced that it should be a very good year for the fans, who deserve it. We hope to win titles at the end of the season,” Garcia exclaimed.

Praising his teammate, Cubarsi highlighted the strong bond he shares with Garcia. “Eric helps you a lot on and off the field and you can see the connection we have,” he acknowledged.

Garcia echoed the sentiment, adding, “We have built a very good relationship with Pau and winning gold has been a great experience.”

Speaking highly of Hansi Flick, Cubarsi mentioned, “The coach is 100% ready to help us and we are very happy with him.”

“I’m very happy to be here helping the team with the new coach and with renewed energy and with the added bonus of the gold in Paris,” Garcia claimed.

The pair also appreciated Fermin Lopez, who was the shining star for Spain at the Olympics. He notched six goals and one assist in six games.

“I’m very happy for Fermín to be at Linares to win a Eurocup and the Olympics, it’s incredible,” Cubarsi praised.

Garcia also made sure to give his teammate his roses. “Fermín has helped us a lot, it’s been incredible,” he agreed.

Cubarsi reflects on the rare and special experience of winning at the Games, expressing pride in the team’s achievement.

“It’s a unique experience. You don’t always get to play in the Games, much less win them, but the group was very good and very proud and happy with what we’ve achieved.

“Everything is going very fast but I’m very focused on my own thing, on being myself. Last season was a bit difficult for us without any titles, but now we’re thinking about having the best season,” the youngster asserted.

“Very happy, we knew that was the main objective, to go for the gold and that’s what happened. When I had the opportunity to go I didn’t hesitate. I was missing the gold and I had to go for it,” Garcia added.
