One of the biggest surprises at the movies this year was the failure of Joker: Folie à Deux. Seeing as how it was the sequel to 2019’s Oscar-winning, billion-dollar record-breaker, anticipation was high for Joaquin Phoenix return to the DC role and be joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. For a number of reasons though, the film hugely underperformed, grossing fewer than $60 million domestically against a reported budget of about $200 million.
Numbers like that lead us to believe most people didn’t go see Joker 2—and, well, now’s your chance to watch it without leaving your couch. Warner Bros. just announced its home release plans for the film and they kick off October 29 with the digital release and video on demand. It’ll be available at all the big places: Apple, Amazon, Fandango, etc.
The digital release will be followed by its DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K release on December 17. All of which (minus the DVD) share the same special features, described as follows by the press release:

The Character Of Music Live! With The Joker Colors Of Madness Crafted With ClassLet’s be honest here. Joker: Folie à Deux isn’t great. If it was great, it would have been at least a moderate hit at the box office. But bad buzz, followed by bad reviews, killed it. (To illustrate, the original film has a 68% from critics and 89% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes, while the sequel has 32% from both critics and fans). But it’s still a sequel to Joker, and one that’s clearly divisive, so you have to imagine once it comes home, people will be curious and check it out.
But, maybe, they won’t be “pay to own it digitally or on disc” curious. If that’s the case, you’re talking about streaming. And while there isn’t news about when the film will show up on Max, we’re making the educated guess it’ll be sometime before the end of the year.
Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Joker: Folie à Deux was co-written with Scott Silver, based on characters from DC. The film was produced by Phillips, Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Joseph Garner. Lady Gaga served as music consultant and the executive producers were Michael E. Uslan, Georgia Kacandes, Scott Silver, Mark Friedberg, and Jason Ruder.
So did you see Joker 2 in theaters? If not, are you going to pay to watch it at home or will you wait for streaming?
