Barcelona forward Lucas “Pocho” Roman has completed a permanent move to Independiente de Avellaneda on a free transfer.
Despite his departure, Barcelona have maintained a stake in the player’s future by securing 30% of any potential future sale of the Argentine striker. This strategic move ensures that the club can benefit financially if Roman’s market value rises.
Both Independiente and Barcelona confirmed the agreement on Sunday. However, Roman was already set to don the red jersey of Independiente and made media appearances at the airport on Saturday night.
While Barcelona’s official statement highlighted their retention of a percentage of any future sale, reports from Argentina indicated that Independiente would retain 60% of Roman’s salary rights.

Roman has signed a contract with Independiente that will keep him at the club until 2027. According to sources, the club is obligated to consider transferring him if they receive an offer of at least $5 million.
Pocho Roman initially joined Barcelona in January 2023 from Club Ferro Carril Oeste for a fee of €1.2 million.
His time with Barcelona’s reserve team saw mixed results. He scored two goals and provided two assists over 28 matches, often coming off the bench.
Among his performances, his standout moment was scoring during the first leg of the promotion play-off final against Córdoba, which ended in a 1-1 draw. That goal sparked hope for a team striving to reach new heights.
Although his journey with Barcelona did not unfold as initially anticipated, the club’s decision to retain a financial interest in his future suggests confidence in his potential growth as a player.
