Young Boys manager in awe of Barcelona prodigy – ‘Incredible what he has already achieved’

Barcelona will lock horns with Swiss outfit Young Boys in their second league phase game of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League tomorrow night at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barça go into the game on the back of a 4-2 defeat to CA Osasuna in La Liga but remain the overwhelming favourites to win on Tuesday.

And, all eyes will be on a certain Lamine Yamal, who has been enjoying a spectacular start to the season. The 17-year-old scored his first UCL goal in the loss to AS Monaco earlier this month and will be eager to help his team get all three points tomorrow at home.

Leading up to the game, Young Boys manager Patrick Rahmen pointed out Lamine Yamal as the chief threat, stating that his team must curtail his creativity to stand any chance on Tuesday.

Rahmen also lavished huge praise on the La Masia wonderkid, claiming that he has a lot of respect for the teenager for everything he has already achieved in his career.

“Lamine Yamal is an extraordinary player. It’s incredible what he has already achieved, I have a lot of respect for him. We will have to be a compact team to prevent such a special player from unleashing his creativity,” said Rahmen.

“But we won’t be playing against just one player, we’ll be playing against the whole Barça team,” he added.

Regarding the work done by Hansi Flick since taking over at Barcelona a few months ago, Rahmen insisted that it was too soon to judge but felt that the club would have a good season.

“Barcelona have had an excellent team in recent times and this summer they have made some adjustments. It’s difficult to judge Flick’s work so far, but they have a lot of quality and I’m sure they will have a good season,” he remarked.

On the prospect of facing a team of Barcelona’s stature, the Swiss coach added: “We are very excited to play tomorrow against one of the best teams in the world.

“We will have to be at our best to perform well here. The team is ready, although we know it will be very difficult.”
