Young Man Earns Lakhs Producing Organic Honey in Bhupalpally

In Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, a young entrepreneur has found success by producing organic honey in an innovative way. After receiving training in beekeeping from Jayashankar Agricultural University, Oruganti began his journey of organic honey production.

Currently, he maintains ten bee boxes, with each box yielding up to 7 kilograms of honey three times a month. Over the past four years, he has been raising European honey bees, scientifically known as Apis mellifera. These hardworking bees travel up to five kilometers daily, collecting nectar from around 16,000 flowers to produce honey stored in the boxes.

The bees have a short lifespan of just four to six weeks. Each box houses three types of bees: worker bees, queen bees, and drones. The golden-colored queen bee lays approximately 2,000 eggs per day, while drones protect the queen and the eggs. Worker bees, which take 21 days to develop, are responsible for collecting nectar and maintaining the hive.

To encourage others, Oruganti has been organizing beekeeping activities for farmers in the Bhupalpally district. He highlights the dual benefits of beekeeping: honey production and crop pollination. The pollination services provided by bees help farmers increase their crop yields, offering an additional advantage.

However, Oruganti expressed concern about the risks posed to honey bees due to the excessive use of pesticides in the district. Bees often die when they come into contact with treated plants. “This is why I started with fewer boxes initially. Market honey is often contaminated with chemicals, but the honey I produce organically is in high demand,” he said.

Many people prefer organic honey because of its numerous health benefits. Honey is seen as a natural remedy that improves blood circulation and digestion. “Beekeeping has been rewarding both financially and personally. I encourage farmers to consider honey production as a way to earn higher profits,” Oruganti advised.

Through his efforts, Oruganti has not only achieved financial success but also inspired others to explore sustainable practices like organic beekeeping.
