Since his arrival in Monaco in 2020, Youssouf Fofana has become one of the references in midfield in Ligue 1. With many technical and physical qualities, the former Strasbourg player quickly climbed the ranks on the Rock. Quickly becoming an undisputed starter, the 25-year-old midfielder then formed a luxury duo with Aurélien Tchouaméni during his first two seasons in the Principality. Following the departure of his friend to Real Madrid in the summer of 2022, the Paris native then became Monaco’s boss in midfield.

Last season, the French international, who took part in the 2022 World Cup, was impressive in the Monaco midfield. With four goals and as many assists in 36 appearances, Fofana was one of the key players in the second place won by Adi Hütter’s men in Ligue 1. But now, with his contract expiring in 2025 with the ASEM club, a departure was looming for the right-hander this summer. Tracked by AC Milan for many months, the French international (21 caps, 3 goals) was also courted in the Premier League. Ultimately, the transalpine resilience paid off.

Youssouf Fofana with AC Milan until 2028

Indeed, this Saturday, the Lombard club announced the arrival of Youssouf Fofana to fill its midfield. While he will wear the number 29 in the Principality, the former Monaco captain has signed a four-year contract with the Rossoneri. Milan’s third recruit of the summer, the RCSA transferee is set to be a starter under Paulo Fonseca who knows him well following their clashes in Ligue 1 between LOSC and ASM. In this transaction, Milan apparently paid nearly 25 million euros.

For its part, AC Milan gave more details on this exciting arrival: “AC Milan is pleased to announce the signing of Youssouf Fofana on a permanent basis from AS Monaco. The midfielder has signed a contract with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2028. Born in Paris (France) on 10 January 1999, Youssouf made his professional debut with the Strasbourg club, where he made 41 appearances, scoring four goals and winning the Coupe de la Ligue. In January 2020, he joined Monaco, where he made 175 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing fifteen assists. After playing in the French youth international teams, he made his senior debut in September 2022. Since then, he has played 21 games for the French national team and scored three goals. Fofana has chosen the number 29 jersey for the Rossoneri.»
