The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, has paid a courtesy visit to the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Alfred Achebe.

Alexander expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and thanked the monarch for his ongoing support of FRSC in Anambra State.

In a press statement released on Saturday, the Sector Public Education Officer, FRSC Anambra State Command, Margaret Onabe, said that during the visit, the sector commander emphasised the FRSC’s mission to reduce road traffic crashes and create a safe motoring environment.

She said collaboration with critical stakeholders and public enlightenment are key elements to ensuring safer roads, especially during the festive season. She added that achieving the FRSC’s goal requires collaboration with various stakeholders.

She said, “To facilitate this collaboration, the FRSC engages in public enlightenment through various mediums and works closely with communities via their traditional rulers.

“Using the 2024 Ember months safety campaign team, ‘Speak up against dangerous driving: Crashes kill more passengers than drivers’, as a case study, we urged the Igwe to advocate for road safety within his community.”

In his response, the monarch welcomed the Sector Commander on behalf of the Onitsha community and acknowledged her as the 15th Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State.

He shared his experiences with the FRSC and called for greater public education aimed at drivers, particularly targeting transport owners (fleet operators), to ensure they are held accountable for any unprofessional conduct on the road.

The Igwe assured the Sector Commander of his support for FRSC in Anambra and informed her of the meetings of traditional leaders to provide opportunities for her to address them.

He wished the Sector Commander an impactful and positive tenure that would benefit the people of Anambra.
