The Rector of Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Dr Abiodun Oluseye, has urged Nigerians to keep spreading love and pursuing harmonious living for a better society.
Oluseye explained that Nigerians, at this time of year, must reflect on the salient lessons of Christmas, which preach God’s love and kindness to humanity. They must, therefore, rededicate themselves to exhibiting those virtues that are capable of making the country great.
The Rector counselled that irrespective of the prevailing circumstances of the nation, the citizens should trust in the Lord as better days are ahead.
Oluseye disclosed this on Wednesday during the Christmas Carol and Service of seven lessons with the theme “Halleluyah, Joy Has Come” held at the polytechnics to return all adoration to God for his faithfulness in the outgoing year.
The Rector, who read the sixth lesson taken from the book of Matthew 2 vs 1-2, said “Christmas symbolizes love, joy, peace and progress and this is what each of us must internalise for the progress of our society.
“Beyond the Christmas season, we must continue to show love, support the cause of humanity and pursue harmonious living which is vital to fostering progress and rapid development of any society.
“And the Christmas Carol service is our little way of appreciating God’s limitless mercy and kindness in the last year just as we trust him for a more fruitful and memorable 2025”.
Oluseye said that his projection for the new year is to continue to rally support for the exponential growth of the institution, providing a conducive atmosphere for the learning of the students while also ensuring that the welfare of the staff does not suffer.
The acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the polytechnic, Evangelist Kehinde Akinsoji, also lauded the staff for their dedication and commitment to promoting academic excellence in line with the vision and mission of the school.
Akinsoji pledged that the Governing Council would always ensure the continuous growth of the polytechnic while also promising that some of the agitations of the staff of the institution would receive due attention in the new year.
He urged Nigerians to embrace righteousness and repent from every work of sins emphasising that redemption for mankind which the birth of Jesus brought should not be lost as this year Christmas is celebrated.
Ministering from the book of Psm 96 vs 11-13, The Lord Bishop of Yewa Diocese, Rev. Michael Oluwarohumbi, said that the Christmas season is a time of sober reflection for everyone to reflect if truly they are living their lives according to the essence of the birth of Jesus.
Oluwarohumbi said, “Christmas time is not a season to get drunk and be lost in all manners of celebrations, it is a time for soul searching, a time people should determine to forsake their sins and embrace salvation because that is the major reason which marked the birth of Jesus Christ”.
The Anglican Bishop also urged the nation’s handlers to embrace Godliness, shun corruption and be more committed to providing solutions to myriads of socio-economic challenges confronting the country.
