Didier Deschamps’ treatment of Warren Zaire-Emery during the Euro is going down very badly.
Didier Deschamps has been inundated with criticism since the elimination of Les Bleus against Spain in the semi-final of the Euro. Firstly because of the poor play of the vice-world champions throughout the competition, concluding with two wins in six matches and only four goals scored, including two own goals and a penalty.
But Didier Deschamps’ management of the squad is also being singled out. And not just because of certain privileges granted to Kylian Mbappé. Among the 25 players selected by the French coach, no fewer than seven of them have also not played a single minute during the entire competition.
In addition to the two goalkeepers, Alphonse Areola and Brice Samba, Jonathan Clauss, Benjamin Pavard, Ibrahima Konaté, Ferland Mendy and Warren Zaïre-Emey did not have a say in the matter. A difficult situation to live with for the players concerned. This is particularly true of Warren Zaïre-Emery who had to give up the Paris Olympic Games to play in the Euro, with PSG refusing to let one of its players play in both competitions.
“Deschamps is a criminal”
And according to RMC, the treatment reserved for WZE is not going down well with those around him, who do not understand the choice of the French team coach, and the player sometimes had difficulty hiding his frustration. “Even if he didn’t play, this Euro will serve as experience for the future”said Didier Deschamps about him after the match against Spain.
And on social media, many voices have been raised to criticize Didier Deschamps’ management. “Deschamps’ inconsistencies… he deprives Zaire Emery of the Olympic Games by taking him to play in Euro 2024”, “Zaire Emery 0 minutes on this Euro, he had to move his baccalaureate to September and he will miss the Olympics in his city because the club said it was either one or the other. He must curse Deschamps”, “Deschamps should have let Zaire-Emery play in the Olympics huh”, “Deschamps is really a murderer”, “Zaire Emery would have contributed much more with Kante instead of Tchouameni”, “Warren-Zaire Emery… it’s really a waste to let such a person play on the bench, without even participating in the game for a single minute”, “I think of Warren Zaire Emery.. Deschamps is a criminal”… : these are some of the comments posted after the Blues’ elimination from the Euro.
