Zamfara State has provided 50 hectares of land at no cost for the Federal Government’s housing initiatives.
That commitment was highlighted during a recent meeting attended by the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal, and the Federal Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, acknowledged the vital collaboration between Zamfara State and the federal ministry.
He expressed gratitude for the governor’s dedication to tackling the state’s pressing issues, including security and infrastructure.
Lawal thanked Dangiwa for the warm reception and prompt arrangements for the meeting.
He underscored the significant challenges facing Zamfara, noting that the state’s internal revenue generation stood at a mere N90m upon his assumption of office.
Lawal emphasised the government’s determination to address insecurity, healthcare, and educational needs head-on.
He also called on the ministry to prioritise Zamfara in future initiatives, particularly regarding the deteriorating structures near the Federal University in Gusau that were in urgent need of attention.
Dangiwa expressed condolences for the recent tragedies due to banditry in the state, noting, “It is a profound loss, and I stand in solidarity with you during these trying times.”
He affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to development, emphasising the importance of the partnership with Zamfara State.
Dangiwa stated, “I acknowledge the generous provision of 50 hectares of land for our initiatives and reiterate our commitment to making this partnership fruitful.”
He outlined plans to construct 500 housing units in Zamfara within the next year, aimed at improving living conditions for the residents.
Lawal reiterated the urgency of addressing the state’s infrastructure needs and highlighted recent improvements in agricultural activities and a reduction in insecurity.
He expressed optimism for future collaborations with the federal ministry, asserting that those efforts were essential for the welfare of the people of Zamfara.
