The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed claims that bandits displaced from Zamfara State have relocated to Kwara.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, refuted the reports circulating on social media.

The statement emphasised that there was no intelligence to suggest any migration of bandits from Zamfara to any part of Kwara State.

A social media report on Sunday had alleged that fleeing bandits from Zamfara had moved to Banni in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara.

However, the police command, responding to the claim, stated that no operational report corroborated the presence of bandits in the area.

The PPRO said, “The attention of the Kwara State Police Command has been drawn to a report alleging that bandits fleeing military offensives in Zamfara State have relocated to Banni town in Kwara State.

“The command categorically debunks this claim as false and misleading, a fabrication intended to cause unnecessary panic among residents. There is no intelligence or operational report to support the presence of armed bandits in Banni.”

The statement further assured residents that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had heightened surveillance across the state to prevent any security threats.

The Kwara Commissioner of Police reaffirmed that the state remained safe and that the police were fully prepared to tackle any security concerns.

He urged the public to disregard unverified reports and refrain from spreading misinformation.
