Former French international Christophe Dugarry reacted to Zinedine Zidane’s refusal to take charge of Algeria.
After Algeria’s premature elimination from CAN 2023, Algerian fans were faced with another disappointment: Zinedine Zidane’s refusal to lead the national team.
This decision by the former glory of the Blues was felt as a betrayal by many Algerian fans, who hoped that the 1998 world champion, who has Algerian origins, would take the reins of the team after the departure of Djamel Belmadi.
Christophe Dugarry, former French international, however understands the decision of the child of Castellane. “Agree with Zidane’s decision to refuse Algeria? Obviously, he declared this Monday for RMC Sport. After he has this sensitivity with the country of his parents, it is sure and certain. Taking the selection under these conditions, I understand his refusal. He has other ambitions. There is the heart and the reality of things. Although nothing is impossible, I understand his position. »
Zidane has a plan
The former Girondins de Bordeaux player is convinced that Zizou is planning something big. “I don’t have any info, but I think he must have something up his sleeve, honestly. The french team ? I don’t know, but I have a feeling he’s up to something. All the teams in the world or all the clubs in the world would like to have him. I understand that his thoughts in the football that he wants to put in place, he wants to go elsewhere than in the Algerian selection. », added Dugarry.
A new disappointment for Algerian supporters, who will still have to wait before seeing their national team return to the top.
