Failing to manage a major European club and especially the French team (due to the extension of Didier Deschamps until the 2026 World Cup), Zinédine Zidane made the news again in 2024. He was the one of the great characters of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ceremony on Friday July 26. “Zizou” accepted Tony Estanguet’s invitation and appeared in the first scene of the memorable show in a sequence recorded at the Stade de France with Jamel Debbouze, before reappearing on the Trocadéro, four hours later, to give the torch to Rafael Nadal.
The number 10 of the 98 world champions is an idol in France and he once again has a place of choice in the Top 50 favorite personalities of the French produced by Ifop for the
Sunday Newspaper. The native of Marseille is 17th, stuck between singer Vianney and star actor Jean Dujardin.
Zidane far behind Riner and Marchand
Crowned six times Favorite personality of the French from 2000 to 2007, Zidane is a must in this “Top 50 JDD”. Even far from the Blues (and the Real Madrid bench), he ranked 15th in 2022 and 16th last year. Didier Deschamps, 23rd in the ranking published at the end of 2022, for example disappeared in 2023.
Zidane is not the French’s favorite sportsman, since Teddy Riner is 3rd in the poll carried out a few weeks ago, behind Jean-Jacques Goldman and Omar Sy. We also find Léon Marchand 5th and Antoine Dupont 38th, two heroes of the Paris Olympics who jumped in this ranking. But Zidane leads the footballers in the top 50. Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé fell heavily. The 2022 world vice-champions, who disappointed during Euro 2024, find themselves 32nd and 36th respectively.
