Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has refused to lead Algeria in 2024.

Zidane maintains a connection to Algeria, his parents’ country of origin, and has been linked to the vacant manager’s post this month. Algeria opted to fire Djamel Belmadi following their elimination in the group stage of CAN 2024, although the former midfielder extended his contract at the start of January.

Zidane says no to the Fennecs

Belmadi now finds himself at the center of a controversy over a severance package from the Algerian Football Federation and FIFA is ready to investigate. According to the latest information from L’Equipe, Algeria’s first choice to replace Belmadi was Zidane, but the 51-year-old technician declined the offer.

Zidane is reportedly waiting for a club job in 2024, after turning down national team positions with Brazil and the United States. The former World Cup winner has been unemployed since leaving Madrid in 2021 and Serie A is being mooted as his most likely destination.
