Divya Spandana, the actress-turned-politician known professionally as Ramya, shared her thoughts on Emergency’s disappointing performance, attributing its failure to poor quality rather than Kangana Ranaut’s talent. Released in January of this year, the film Emergency has struggled to make an impact at the box office, garnering barely Rs 23 crore in India despite receiving mixed reviews from audiences and critics alike.

Ramya Calls Kangana Ranaut Starrer Emergency Bad

Ramya acknowledged Kangana’s capabilities as an actress but criticized the execution of Emergency. “Emergency was a badly made film. Kangana Ranaut is a very talented actress and it has nothing to do with her as a person. But that movie was bad and that is why the audience rejected it. Kangana also made Manikarnika and that was a hit because the content was good and the audience liked it.” She stated during a panel discussion at the Bengaluru International Film Festival, as reported by Hindustan Times.

About Emergency

In Emergency, Kangana plays the role of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, marking not only her performance but also her directorial debut. The film delves into the controversial 21-month Emergency period imposed by Gandhi from 1975 to 1977, a time often described as one of the darkest chapters in the history of independent India.

The film’s cast features notable actors, including Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi. Despite its star-studded lineup and historical significance, Emergency has failed to captivate audiences, prompting discussions about the importance of quality content in filmmaking. Emergency made a total of Rs. 23 cr globally. Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial ‘Emergency’ is in its third week and has experienced fluctuations at the box office.
