Ivory Coast forward Sebastian Haller has expressed determination to avenge their previous loss to Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage during the upcoming AFCON final.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Abidjan on Sunday.
In their earlier encounter, William Troost-Ekong’s second-half penalty secured a 1-0 victory for Nigeria over Ivory Coast in the group-stage match.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s showdown, Haller emphasized the Elephants’ desire for revenge and their ambition to claim the title this time around, as reported by BeIn SPORTS.
“We are playing the (AFCON final) final against Nigeria. It is a great nation. It is heavy. They beat us in the group stage.
“But we are already motivated to go and lift the trophy on Sunday in this stadium in front of the Ivorian people. We have revenge to take on Nigeria,” Haller told BeIn SPORTS.
The two-time champions are notably the first host country to reach the AFCON final since Egypt in 2006, marking a remarkable turnaround for a team that was on the verge of elimination in the group stage.
