Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa
The Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the sum of N34 million for 46 individuals under the state government’s Medical Assistance Programme.
It was gathered that the programme aims to assist people suffering from various ailments who are unable to afford their medical bills.
Presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries at the State Ministry of Health in Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday, Aiyedatiwa stated that his administration has prioritised citizens’ well-being since its inception.
The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Akaka, urged the beneficiaries to use the funds for the purpose for which they were approved.
He said, “We are distributing these cheques to people with various ailments who are unable to cover their medical bills. The Medical Assistance Programme sought approval for N230 million to support people across the state.
“But due to budgetary constraints, only N34 million was allocated to benefit 46 individuals. We appreciate Mr. Governor’s compassionate approval and encourage the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely. We also advise everyone to enrol in the health insurance scheme, as the importance of health insurance will become even clearer in the years to come.”
The commissioner added that the ministry had initially sought approval for over N200 million for the project but, due to budgetary limitations, only 46 individuals received a total of N34 million. He urged beneficiaries to join the state health insurance scheme to ensure access to affordable health care.
