The Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Umo Eno, has said undergraduates and postgraduate students in the state would receive ₦20,000 and ₦30,000, monthly, respectively, from the state government.
Umo Eno stated this on Wednesday at the Youths Appreciation Rally to the youths in Uyo Township Stadium.
According to Eno, medical, law, engineering and agriculture undergraduate students would also be paid ₦30,000 monthly.
“For our students, starting this academic session, we have increased the bursary from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 for all undergraduates, and from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 for professional students studying medicine, law, engineering, agriculture, and all postgraduate students,” he said.
The Akwa-Ibom State Governor also stated that his government has trained youths in engineering in partnership with Ethiopian Airlines.
Eno added that his government would provide seedlings to youths trained in modern farming practices.
He explained that the government would be the sole buyer of the farm crops from the trained youths if the crops mature for harvest.
“We have 21 youths currently training as engineers with Ethiopian Airlines. They are Addis Ababa, sponsored by the state government. We have trained well over 150 of our youths in agriculture, with the aim of utilizing their skills in our model farms and also to help them become agripreneurs. We will provide them with the seedlings and purchase those seedlings when it’s time for harvest. We’ll support them and provide funds to run their businesses,” Eno added.
