Alan Shearer believes Ruud van Nistelrooy will help boost Rasmus Hojlund’s development at Manchester United.
Van Nistelrooy is on the verge of being installed as a new addition to Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff at Old Trafford.
An announcement will be made once Van Nistelrooy secures a visa.
The former Netherlands international was one of the greatest centre-forwards to play for United, and many believe he will help the likes of Hojlund develop as a striker.
Shearer, who rarely has a positive take on United, told Betfair (via Manchester Evening News): “That can only enhance and help Hojlund because Ruud van Nistelrooy has been there, he’s worn the shirt at Old Trafford.
“Hojlund working with him on the training ground is only going to improve him. In really difficult circumstances for Hojlund last season, I think there’s definitely something to work with there. It was around 16 goals he got in the end which is a decent return for how tough it had been for him and a lot of his team-mates for most of the season.”
United are looking to add a new striker to the squad this season, to provide competition for Hojlund and help push his development.
Bologna centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee has been heavily linked with a move to United after Euro 2024.
The Netherlands striker made his international debut in the quarter-finals and Rene Meulensteen thinks he should start in their semi-final against England.
