And Out: Batista Speaks On His Retirement Match, Why He Will Not Wrestle Again

It’s a messy situation. Retirement is a tricky situation in wrestling as you never know when you are going to see someone officially go away for good. It can be a big deal when someone has their final match, especially if someone actually stays away from the ring. Now one of the biggest names of all time is explaining why he is deciding to stay retired for good.

Batista was interviewed by Chris Van Vliet and spoke about his retirement from wrestling. Batista spoke about his final match, against Triple H at WrestleMania 35, would be his last because he was able to go out on his own terms. While he would love to wrestle again and have the feeling that comes with entering a ring to his theme music, he does not want to tarnish the way his career ended. He did not rule out making non-wrestling appearances in the future.

On Knowing His Retirement Match Would Be His Last

“I did, I just didn’t tell anybody else because I didn’t want it to be a big ordeal. I didn’t want to go out and do the tour and give a speech. I wanted to have my match, and I wanted to call it a career, so I wanted to go out on my own terms. It was great. I was really proud of it. It was the way I wanted to go out. This was like a dream for me. It’s so perfect. It’s such a romantic way. Wrestlers don’t get to choose the way they go out. I did. I went out on my own terms, the way I wanted, with the guy I wanted to go out with. I will never tarnish that. It’s not that I don’t miss it. I miss the crowd, I miss the energy of the crowd. I dream about walking out and hearing my entrance music, but I know if I do that, I would just tarnish my storybook ending, and I’m just not willing to do it.”

And On Wanting To Return

“There’s always temptation because I miss it, and every time I hear my music, I want that feeling again. It’s like a drug. It just fires me up. It’s pure adrenaline. I will never get that anywhere else. I just have to come to terms that my time has passed.”

Opinion: You do not hear something like that very often and it is nice to see for a change. Batista got to walk away like few others have ever manage to make work and there is a very good chance that he will not wrestle again. For now, that is an amazing way to go out and hopefully he is happy with what he did, as he certainly had an impressive career, especially the way it ended.
