Easy winner of Namibia (3-0), Angola secured its place in the quarter-finals of the CAN.

Surprise leader of its group D of the CAN, notably ahead of Burkina Faso and Algeria, Angola continued on the same momentum during the knockout phase of the competition. Opposed to Namibia, the Palencas Negras won with a clear score of 3-0.

Angola knows no doubt

However, the match started badly for the Angolans. After 17 minutes of play, they found themselves outnumbered following the expulsion of goalkeeper Neblu. But, this fact of the game did not prevent them from remaining ambitious in the game. And the judicious tactical choices of their coach Gonçalves did the rest.

With a man less, Angola managed to open the scoring in the 38the minute via Gelson Dala (38e). Then, just four minutes later, the same Dala ensured the break with a header. With this double, he brought his number of goals in this competition to 5.

Between Dala’s two goals, Namibia also saw one of its men collect a red (Haukong). Already very feverish at 11 against 01, Collin Benjamin’s team was even more so when tied numerically. And it was no surprise that she ended up conceding a third goal in the second half. Mabululu crucified him with a beautiful strike with the flat of his foot, following a serve from… Gelson Dala (66e).

At 3-0, the Mass was said and Angola could look ahead to the rest of the game. In the next round, she will face the winner of the duel between Nigeria and Cameroon. She won’t be the favorite, but becoming an outsider doesn’t bother her. The Palencas Negras have perhaps never ceased to surprise.
