The Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839) has a tentative deal with the major Hollywood studios.
With less than two weeks left until the current contract expiration and after multiple extensions, the bargaining unit announced Monday that it had finalized another three-year agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Among the provisions secured in the latest contract are increases to health and pension funds, wage increases, AI protections, and more. Next, the contract will go to Animation Guild members for a ratification vote.
“After weeks of negotiations that covered months in the calendar, I am very proud of the agreement that we reached with the studios for our new contract,” TAG Business Representative Steve Kaplan said in a statement Monday. “Not only have we seen the inclusion of advancements in the industry realized by the other unions and guilds, but we were able to address industry-specific issues in a meaningful way.”
As Deadline previously reported, artificial intelligence and staff protections were the top priorities for the Animation Guild as talks continued over the past several months. According to the guild, the new contract achieves “a framework for staffing minimums for writers,” among other craft-specific gains.
There were no details on the AI protections gained, though it’s expected that the full contract will be made available, at least to members, prior to the ratification voting deadline.
