Anurag Kashyap reveals Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Taapsee Pannu regularly checked on him during his battle with depression

Anurag Kashyap has been open about his struggles with depression and alcohol addiction. After being trapped in these challenges for nearly two years, he has now recovered and is grateful to those who supported him during his journey. In a recent interview, the renowned filmmaker discussed how his industry friends consistently checked on him while he was recovering. In his interview with Zoom, the Gangs of Wasseypur director shared how his daughter Aaliyah Kashyap played a crucial role in his recovery, teaching him valuable lessons and pushing him towards therapy.

He mentioned, “My friends and partners have also been there for me.” Kashyap, known for his collaborations with Nawazuddin Siddiqui in films like Raman Raghav 2.0, Gangs of Wasseypur, and Haddi, revealed that Siddiqui regularly checks on him. “Nawazuddin messages me often, asking about my health and if I need anything,” Kashyap said. He also highlighted the support from his Manmarziyaan actress, Taapsee Pannu, who frequently calls him. “Taapsee Pannu calls and the first thing she asks is, ‘Are you alive? How are things going? How is your health?’”

In the same interview, Anurag praised Anubhav Sinha, describing him as ‘incredible’ for his concern about Kashyap’s smoking and drinking habits. He recalled an instance where Sinha, along with his daughter, disposed of all his alcohol bottles. Additionally, filmmakers Sudhir Mishra and Vikramaditya Motwane, along with Kashyap’s wife Ishika, were also vigilant about his well-being. “Sudhir Mishra went out of his way to book me into a place to help me recover. There are many people in my life who I am grateful for. Vikramaditya Motwane and Ishika have always been concerned and made sure I was on the path to recovery,” Kashyap added.

Kashyap’s candid revelations underscore the importance of a strong support system. His friends and family not only provided emotional support but also took proactive steps to help him overcome his struggles. The filmmaker’s recovery journey highlights the impact of having caring individuals who consistently look out for one’s well-being, emphasising the value of community and companionship in the face of personal battles.
