The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns following the discovery of schemes by individuals with ill intentions toward the party ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 9, 2024.

According to the party, the group is scheming to instigate discord among party members.

In a statement released in Jos on Monday, the State Acting Publicity Secretary, Shittu Bamaiyi, indicated that the Party has received information suggesting that a faction identifying itself as “foundation members” is actively recruiting individuals to sow confusion and division within the Party.

Bamaiyi further emphasized that this group intends to exploit certain media outlets to disseminate misleading information regarding the Party’s current situation in the Plateau region.

Naija News understands that there has been a notable trend of defections from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the past month, particularly from the local government area in Kanam.

This includes prominent figures such as Dyabbu Garga, a two-time Commissioner and former Chairman of the LGA, as well as Saleh Yipmong, the former Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, among other key members who have departed from the Party.

In the statement released today, Bamaiyi said: “In the first instance, the name “foundation members” connotes mischief because as far as the APC is concerned, there exist no differentials in respect of membership, since all supporters enjoy the same recognition and respect in the Party. For anybody or a group of persons to wake up and claim superiority over others is an attempt to create class difference with the sole intention of weakening the Party structure and cohesion to achieve some subterranean motives.

“The Party is not unaware that some people have not been happy with the ongoing reconciliatory exercise and would, therefore, go all out to sabotage the moves for some reasons best known to them. The party suspects the “voice of Jacob and hands of Esau” in the ill-intentioned, ill-conceived, and ill-timed agenda of the group. What smacks suspicion and misgivings about the motive of the group, is the timing of its planned actions, particularly when the local government elections are about to take place.

“Intelligence gathered points to the fact that the main purpose of the group is to ferment trouble for the Party not to be able to face the local government elections squarely. The APC is appealing to its members to remain calm and resolute, as well as disregard any misinformation that might come from the group, as it is nothing but a hatchet job to frustrate the Party from actively participating in the local government elections in the State.”
