We’re 24 hours out from the release of the third act of Arcane‘s final season, and fans are beside themselves knowing Netflix’s Emmy award-winning League of Legends series will be coming to an end. While much of fans’ pre-mourning comes with the knowledge that they’ll have to fill the void Arcane will have left by searching for a new show to hyper-fixate over, the sapphic cornerstone of the fandom has gone full investigative journalist, scrubbing for any and every clue pointing to the finale culminating with a sex scene.
For the past couple of weeks, across Arcane‘s staggered Saturday morning batch releases of episodes, fans have clued in on the show’s mature rating encompassing all of the content for the season for language, smoking, violence, and sex. While the show, up until this point, has been chock full of the first three benchmarks of the show’s rating, it has been noticeably devoid of that last category. This, in turn, has put fans on an emotional rollercoaster theorizing an impending sex scene involving the show’s it couple, Vi and Caitlyn Kiramman.
Throughout the season, fans have witnessed the pair share an emotionally charged kiss, only to break up 20 minutes later; Caitlyn turning fascist and rebound with her subordinate; and “Caitvi” reuniting in a plot to trick Caitlyn’s guards into letting Vi infiltrate her base. In so doing, Caitlyn placed Vi in handcuffs and a blindfold, and Vi improvised their charade by spitting in Caitlyn’s face in front of her guards. Naturally, this led Caitlyn responding by wiping Vi’s spit across her lips instead of away from her face. The butch-femme pairing has a lot to sort out come Arcane‘s final act, and fans believe a the show’s soundtrack points toward them having make up sex.
The first bit of sleuthing fans have uncovered pointing toward “Caitvi” having sex comes from Arcane‘s soundtrack. As the show approaches its finale, streaming platforms including Spotify have released songs like Mike Shinoda and Emilly Armstrong’s “Heavy Is the Crown” and Ashnikko’s “Paint the Town Blue” in tandem with the rollout of Arcane‘s first and second acts. One of the last Arcane songs yet to be released is King Princess‘ “Fantastic,” which fans are sure will underscore Caitvi’s sex scene. Their proof? King Princess’ social media posts overtly teasing them about it.
In a series of Instagram Story posts, King Princess (who goes by the handle KingPrincess69) shared a bunch of Arcane TikToks theorizing the genderqueer artist’s song playing during Caitvi’s sex scene. Such highlights include King Princess sharing a TikTok screenshot which reads, “they’re either parting ways or parting legs during this song.” King Princess even took things further by dueting a Caitvi TikTok edit, writing, “I know something you don’t,” and responding to a fan (the fan’s handle: Cait’s Hexstrap) comment, “Caitvi boombayah scene in 4k UHD from all angles,” with a video of herself doing a chef’s kiss emote to the song that repeated the lyric “I love women.” It should also be noted that much of King Princess’ discography has a theme of longing, and one of her most popular songs is titled “Pussy Is God.” Do with that information what you will.
Another significant piece of evidence is a newly painted mural, shared on social media, depicting Caitlyn and Vi cuddling each other’s faces. Fans have noted that the pair is wearing the same outfits from the Arcane act three promotional trailer, where Vi confronts Caitlyn for being a dictator for all of one episode (roughly six months through a time skip). Arcane also has the pleasure of having Amanda Overton, whose past works include shows with prominent queer representation like Apple TV+’s Severance and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, as its lead writer. Overton also hasn’t been shy about her vocal support of the ship. Perhaps the characters will reconcile after Vi rightfully holds Caitlyn’s feet to the fire for her brief stint of fascism?
Time will tell whether Fortiche and Riot Games confirm Caitvi fans’ down-bad suspicions of a sex scene or completely swerve them come the release of Arcane‘s final act by having some other pairing do the dance. Regardless, fans will be sure to have their meme folders confirming or denying them of Caitvi’s “sesbian lex” come its release.
Arcane season two’s third act releases on Netflix on November 23.
