Ariana Grande takes us to the magical world of Oz with the unveiling of her r.e.m. beauty x Wicked makeup collection. After teasing the drop earlier this month, the 31-year-old eternal sunshine superstar revealed the entire collection, including pricing information and the official release date. In a series of interviews, she discussed creating the whimsical products and becoming Glinda on the big screen. Keep reading to find out more… The collection includes an eyeshadow palette inspired by the ethereal pinks and greens that make up Glinda and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo)’s wardrobes. Each of the two characters have their own personalized bundles of products, too. Ariana also developed three lip stains, a pH-adjusting lip oil and other products. Speaking to Vogue, she said, “I pulled inspiration for the collection from the stage show, the movie, and the books.” “I wanted it to really feel like part of the world [of the film]. I wanted it to be a means for the fans to feel closer to it than they ever could,” she told Allure about the products. In both outlets, Ariana stressed the importance of separating the character of Glinda from her personal persona as a pop star. “Beauty really helped me deconstruct that person and find Glinda,” she said, adding that it starting with going blonde down to her brows. It was a process. “We tried many different eyebrow shades, so many different toner concoctions,” she recalled. “And so many different wigs because they all tell different stories. I’ll never forget when we finally landed on the perfect combination. Our director, Jon M. Chu, was like, ‘That’s her.’” Now, Ariana said that she and Cynthia “loved to shop in character.” “I just wanted to live in the DNA and mindset of the character. Now I love the color pink and it feels like part of me. I think it’s something I’ll be forever intertwined with in a very special way,” she said. Her Wicked experience has been as magical as the collection and the movie it’s based on. During her conversation with Allure, Ariana opened up about hearing the mixes for the soundtrack and her emotional response. “The other week I was visiting my family in Boca and I was up late one night with my headphones on because the mixes had just come in for the soundtrack,” she shared. “I was sitting in my childhood bedroom with the poster across from my bed signed by the original Broadway cast and listening to our mixes of the soundtrack. It was really emotional. I just burst into tears.” The Wicked makeup collection will be available to purchase on the r.e.m. beauty website at midnight ET on October 1 and will also come to Ulta.
