Arsenal and Manchester United make English football history with new record attendance in WSL

Arsenal played host to yet another record crowd in the Women's Super League during their 3-1 win against Manchester United.

The Gunners continue to attract high attendances to the Emirates Stadium in a huge boost for the women's game.

Last season, they welcomed 47,367 fans to their north London derby against Tottenham and saw this number increase in October.

Their season opening defeat against Liverpool saw 54,115 in attendance but this went one step further on Saturday afternoon.

A huge 60,160 supporters, which is close to the 60,704 capacity, watched Arsenal beat United to set a new record for the Women's Super League.

The result is one that saw the Gunners reaffirm their title intentions despite them still sitting behind Chelsea and Manchester City.

An own-goal form Geyse gave the hosts the lead after ten minutes before Cloe Lacasse headed into double their advantage.

Kim Little's penalty all but sealed the result by half-time, with the visitors scoring a consolation goal through Lucia Garcia late on.

Arsenal now have a seven point safety gap between them and 4th, with United's hopes of Champions League qualification taking a hit.

Jonas Eidevall's side still trail the leading pack though, with Chelsea and City both sitting on the same points and goal difference.

The latter beat the former 1-0 on Friday night, although the Blues remain ahead of them via goals scored.

Arsenal are the only title challengers to have exited the FA Cup, with Chelsea and City therefore still on for league and cup double.

They are still waiting to win their first Women's Super League title since 2012, with Chelsea eyeing a fourth consecutive trophy.

However, Arsenal could certainly be spurred onto glory should they continue to attract such high attendances at home.
