A veteran Barca player has asked Xavi to reconsider his decision to leave.

On Saturday, after FC Barcelona’s disappointing defeat against Villarreal in Montjuic (5-3), coach Xavi Hernandez announced that he would leave his post at the end of the season. The next morning, Xavi met with his team to discuss the situation and explain the reasons for his departure this summer. This meeting was marked by emotion, and the 44-year-old was not the only one to speak, as Sergi Roberto, the club captain, also addressed his teammates and the team of coaches.

Sergi Roberto insists

According to Cadena SER, Roberto has asked Xavi to reconsider his decision to leave, as he wants him to stay at the helm of the club for longer. Additionally, he apologized on behalf of himself and his teammates for the poor performances in recent months.

Roberto certainly has an ulterior motive in wanting Xavi to stay, as he is expected to leave the club next summer when his lease expires. The veteran midfielder was likely to stay at Barcelona if Xavi did, but we now know that will not be the case.
