Dismissed from his position as FC Barcelona coach, Xavi broke the silence this Friday.

The information had the effect of a small bomb a few hours ago, on the other side of the Pyrenees: Xavi is no longer the coach of FC Barcelona. Against all expectations, the Catalan technician was dismissed from his duties, at the end of a season perceived as a major failure.

While he announced last January that he would leave his post at the end of the season, Xavi reversed his decision. The 2010 world champion intended to honor his last year of contract on the bench of his long-time club, but its president Joan Laporta decided otherwise. Xavi certainly pays for his criticism of the club’s sporting policy.

Xavi’s moving message

Silent until then, Xavi spoke out on social networks. “Dear Culés. Sunday my adventure on the Barça bench will end, can we read in a post published on Instagram. It’s never easy to leave the club of your life, but I’m very proud, after two and a half years at the head of a locker room which has been like a second family. I would like to thank the fans for the support and affection, who have always been by my side and shown me the same love at all times as in my football stadium. From Sunday I will be one more time in the stands, either now at the Olympic Stadium or in a few months at the Camp Nou. Because before being a player or a coach I am a fan of Barcelona and I only want the best for the club in my life, of which I will always be at the disposal.”

“I worked with a great group of players and a great staff,” Xavi continued. Thanks to them all, we achieved the objectives set, winning La Liga and the Super Cup last year. This season things didn’t go the way we wanted, but we didn’t give up and helped grow a new generation of young footballers from La Masia who inspire all Barcelona fans. Thank you very much to all. To the fans, the players, the staff, the employees of the club, the president, the board of directors, the sporting directors, the media and all those with whom I have shared the journey during these two and a half seasons. I wish the best to the club that I hold in my heart. Visca el Barça. » Class.
