Kalvin Phillips was a hot topic in Barcelona circles in recent days, but as things stand, it is apparent that Barcelona are not quite serious about signing the Manchester City star.
In fact, Phillips is reportedly open to joining West Ham United this January, with the London clubs currently holding talks with Man City over a loan move.
With Phillips no longer an option, Barcelona appear to have shifted their focus on Lucas Bergvall, in their bid to shore up the ranks in the midfield unit.
Barcelona advancing in deal to sign Bergvall
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Lucas Bergvall.
Romano claims that Barça are advancing steadily in their pursuit of Bergvall. The club have scheduled a new round of talks for the player.
Currently plying his trade for a Swedish outfit Djurgarden, Bergvall is well aware of the interest around him, with even Arsenal and Bayern Munich keen on his services.
Barcelona’s biggest competitor in the Bergvall pursuit, though, could be Eintracht Frankfurt.
The German outfit have done a great job of poaching hidden gems across Europe in recent years and have built a solid reputation for nurturing young talents.
With that in mind, Eintracht are determined to sign Lucas Bergvall, as they look to further enhance their ranks in the middle of the park.
Romano suggests that Barcelona want to anticipate the move from Eintracht Frankfurt and wants to move ahead in the race.
However, it must be noted that the Catalans are not rushing to sign Bergvall in this January window. Their offer to sign the Swedish starlet is applicable for the summer ahead.
This is hardly surprising as Barça are going through economic turmoil and might not be in a position to fund a move right now.
