Even as FC Barcelona continue to scramble in the market to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes, they are not losing sight of securing the future of the core of the current squad.

One such player who is the present and the future of the club is Pedri, whose current contract with the Catalan giants expires in 2026.

Barcelona working on a renewal

With two years left on his existing deal, Barcelona have already begun negotiating a contract renewal for Pedri, reports Alex Pintanel.

The 21-year-old midfield sensation is considered one of the ‘non-transferable’ players at the club and is seen as a key part of the core.

Even though he has been troubled by fitness problems, there is simply no questioning the quality that Pedri brings to the table and the difference he makes on the pitch for Barcelona.

As such, it does not come as a surprise to see the Blaugrana already working on a new contract for the Spanish midfield superstar.

Speaking about his contract renewal in April earlier this year, Pedri had said: “I’m very calm because I know Barcelona will respect what they told me and discussed about the contract.

“Barça has always been the club of my dreams.”

So, there should be no major problems with regard to a renewal given that the player and the club are both eager to continue their partnership.

While negotiations are open, it is unlikely that a renewal agreement could be finalised imminently, considering that Barcelona’s entire focus at the moment is on closing the transfer window on a strong note.
