Barcelona breakout defender not thinking about leaving despite offers on table – report

Over the last few seasons, whenever Barcelona have been in the slightest of trouble, they have been able to spawn a new player from La Masia to take care of business for them, especially in the league. 

Midfield woes? Here’s Ilaix Moriba and Gavi. No cover for Jordi Alba? Alejandro Balde becomes a world-beater. No replacement for Dembele? 16-year-old Lamine Yamal will do it. 

And these are just a few examples from a sea of academy graduates that have done exceedingly well at the club over the last couple of seasons, especially. 

Marc Guiu is another name that deserves to be mentioned, and Hector Fort has impressed as the right and left-back in the limited game-time he has received, too. 

Recently, though, the name on every fan’s lips is Pau Cubarsi. The 17-year-old centre-back is hailed as the biggest defensive prospect coming out of La Masia since Gerard Pique, and has already put in a fair few brilliant performances, including one against Getafe recently.

Cubarsi attracting interest

Cubarsi already has offers on the table from clubs, as per a report from RAC1. He has a very low release clause right now, which is understandably attracting a lot of attention.

Barcelona fans need not be concerned, though, as the player is not thinking about leaving the club at all. He only wants to succeed at the Camp Nou, and has not even considered listening to the offers.

Barcelona have not started extension talks

Barcelona, too, are very happy with the progress and want to extend his contract, but have not initiated talks yet, as they do not know about the Financial Fair Play margin they will have in the summer.

They will likely look to promote the player to the first-team, though, especially with reports claiming that one of Andreas Christensen or Jules Kounde could end up leaving the club out of financial necessity.

And while youth team coaches have always talked him up and talked about his brilliance, his inclusion in the first-team did come out of necessity, with injuries to Inigo Martinez and Andreas Christensen in defence.

Now, however, he seems to be ahead of Inigo Martinez in the pecking order, especially because of his unparalleled ball-playing ability, which was hailed by Xavi as the ‘best in the club’.
