Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that Barcelona director Deco had met with the agent of second-choice goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
It was suggested that the matter of a potential departure for the Spaniard in the summer was discussed in the meeting.
Pena got an extended run in the team during the absence of Marc-Andre ter Stegen through injury, but he was not always convincing. However, as far as his future is concerned, there may be nothing to worry about.
Barcelona count on Inaki Pena
Indeed, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have no plans of selling Inaki Pena in the summer and will count on him for next season.
The meeting did take place between the 25-year-old’s agent and Deco, but the most important thing that has been transmitted from the club is that they are happy with his performance.
Pena has a contract with Barcelona until 2026, with a termination clause of €400 million set in his last renewal signed in 2023. And his departure from the club was a possibility that, for now, is closed.
Pena feels good at Barça and there would only be a change of plans on both sides if an irrefutable offer were to arrive, which would also have to assume his currently considerable salary.
There are teams that have shown interest in the goalkeeper but haven’t gone any further. Real Betis are one of them, but they have problems with regard to Fair Play.
It is a good thing for Barça that Pena continues, as in the event of a departure they would have to go to the market to look for a guaranteed goalkeeper in an economic context in which they have priority in other areas.
