Barcelona signed Dani Olmo earlier this summer in calm fashion, making no noise over the ruckus his registration would create.

After openly advocating that the club’s financial situation is much improved, it is almost embarrassing to see the extent to which Joan Laporta and Co. have had to fall to register a player they promised to provide regular minutes.

Needless to say, there is no fault of Olmo’s who was only making his dream return home possible.

The management, however, have gone on to force Ilkay Gundogan and Mikayil Faye out to make space for the new signing in what can only be described as a shameless move.

Sufficient space created

Despite rumours earlier this week that the departure of the two stars may not be enough, Mundo Deportivo clarifies in a recent report that the exits of Gundogan and Faye will do the trick for the Catalans.

Olmo, who was unavailable for Barcelona’s clash against Valencia, could thus be available for the upcoming game against Athletic Club this weekend.

La Liga is currently reviewing the documentation of Gundogan and Faye’s departures and will give the green light for the new signing’s registration immediately after.

While Gundogan is leaving Barcelona on a free transfer, the €40 million he was owed over the next two years will be freed after his departure, creating space on the wage bill.

In Faye’s case, the Blaugrana have the added bonus of a €12 million fixed fee with €4 million in variables to add to the player’s wage discount.

With Barcelona set to lock horns with the Basque outfit in under 48 hours, not long remains for the club to complete the paperwork. If registered, one can expect Olmo to feature on the left-wing on the night.
