A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a comprehensive update on Barcelona’s hunt for a new striker.
The Catalans are closely assessing several options in the transfer market, as they look to find a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
The likes of Jonathan David and Rafael Leao have emerged as potential targets for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona may postpone striker search
However, despite there being a slew of options available in the market, there is a possibility Barcelona may postpone their search for a new striker.
As per the report, Barcelona could delay their plans to sign a new number nine to 2026, provided Lewandowski continues for another year.
Will Lewandowski continue at Barcelona in the coming years? (Photo by Srdjan Stevanovic/Getty Images)The Pole is contracted to Barcelona until 2026, and given the way he has performed this season, it won’t be surprising to see the forward playing out his contract.
In fact, Lewandowski is reportedly keen on continuing at Barça at least until 2027. He will have turned 39 by then.
Aged 36, Lewandowski has racked up 19 goals in just 17 competitive matches this season. It appears the Pole has managed to bring back his best form under the leadership of Hansi Flick.
One would expect the veteran forward to continue his stellar form as the player has yet to show any signs of slowdown.
And should Lewandowski continue until 2026, there is a fair chance Barcelona will delay their hunt for a new striker, which could be a fair strategy.
It must be noted that the Catalans are expected to face multiple economic hiccups in the summer of 2025. Waiting for another year, therefore, could place them in a better position.
