Only a while ago, reports emerged claiming that Turkish giants Fenerbahce had made an official offer for Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu.

The 32-year-old joined the Blaugrana only during the last summer window, returning for a second stint at his boyhood club.

But after a solid start to the season, Romeu’s form has seen a steep decline, which led to him being ousted from Xavi’s starting lineup.

The veteran Spaniard has barely been used by the manager in recent matches, with Pedri, Ilkay Gundogan, Frenkie de Jong, Sergi Roberto, and Fermin Lopez all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.

So, there may be a possibility that Romeu will consider leaving Barcelona this month in search of regular minutes, with Fenerbahce now sniffing around.

Barcelona will sign a midfielder if Romeu leaves

In the event that Romeu ends up being sold in the current transfer window, Barcelona will sign a new midfielder before the end of the month, reports Gerard Romero.

It is no secret that the Blaugrana have already been scouring the market for reinforcements in the centre of the park since Gavi’s season-ending injury.

But the possibility of anyone arriving seemed very unlikely owing to the Financial Fair Play situation at the club.

“I see it as very difficult to sign because of the situation we are in. I don’t think there will be anything new in this regard,” Xavi had said as recently as yesterday.

However, if Romeu ends up departing, it will leave Barça without a natural defensive midfielder in the squad, which would compel them to bring in another player before the window slams shut.

Nothing is concrete at this point, though, and much would depend on how the negotiations between Fenerbahce and Barcelona, if there are any, progress.

The Blaugrana have already suffered setbacks in pursuit of two Premier League midfielders in Giovani Lo Celso and Kalvin Phillips. So, it will be interesting to see who they decide to go after if Romeu ends up bidding goodbye.
