With roughly over a week left before the transfer market slams shut, FC Barcelona are desperately looking to trim their squad in an attempt to reduce the inflated wage bill.

The likes of Vitor Roque and Clement Lenglet have all been linked with moves away from Catalonia in these final few days of the transfer market.

But apart from Ilkay Gundogan’s impending move to Manchester City, Barcelona are yet to sanction any notable sales so far and are open to new players leaving the club before the window ends.

That is where the future of Andreas Christensen has come into focus. The Dane has been recently linked with a move to Newcastle United, who are looking for defensive reinforcements this summer.

An economical solution for Barcelona

A recent report from AS has affirmed strong Premier League interest in Andreas Christensen.

The report even labels Christensen a ‘dark horse’ in the market. Although new coach Hansi Flick rates the Dane quite highly, Barcelona could entertain the idea of his sale in order to make space in the wage bill.

That is because Christensen could prove to be an economical solution for Barcelona, as they look to bring in fresh revenue.

It must be noted that Christensen had joined the club on a free transfer, meaning Barcelona will essentially be making a profit if they are able to offload him this summer.

The Dane’s sale would generate enough net profit for Barcelona so that they can register the new signing Dani Olmo, ideally before this weekend’s encounter against Athletic Club.

As mentioned earlier, the former Chelsea star enjoys good traction in the Premier League. Barcelona would, therefore, have no problem in generating a substantial amount from the sale of the star defender.
