Barcelona are facing a crucial summer ahead, as the club not only look to sign new players but also retain the important stars in the team.
That is where Joao Cancelo comes into the picture. Joining Barça on a season-long loan deal last summer, the Portuguese right-back has been quite impactful in Catalonia this season.
Cancelo’s immediate impact instantly led to talks of Barcelona potentially signing the player permanently once the season ends.
However, Barça’s bid to keep hold of Cancelo will be far from straightforward, particularly because Manchester City are unlikely to consider another loan for the defender.
Cancelo to cost Barcelona €25 million
To that end, a recent report from Juan Jimenez Salvado (h/t Barça Centre) suggests that Manchester City will be looking for a fee of around €25 million for Cancelo this summer.
Barcelona are expected to try and lower this amount, as the club are still suffering from economic distress and are not in a position to splurge on a single player.

Barça, in fact, will make every effort to lower the fee because the club feel they have a crucial advantage.
Indeed, Barcelona are aware of the fact that Cancelo is absolutely desperate to remain in Catalonia and he does not wish to sign for any other club.
This could play into the hands of Barcelona, knowing Manchester City are desperate to offload the Portuguese international in the coming summer.
But if the player does not negotiate with any other club than Barça, Man City will be forced to listen to Barcelona’s terms and perhaps even lower their demands for the right-back.
