Xavi Hernandez’s decision to quit Barcelona has sent shockwaves in the Catalan dressing room.

After a little more than two years at the helm, Xavi had introduced great many changes to the Barcelona setup, for better or worse.

But the club will once again have to start from scratch next season and the board has a crucial task of finalising a replacement for the Spaniard.

To that end, the Blaugrana are considering multiple options in the market, including Jurgen Klopp, who has recently decided to quit Liverpool after the end of the season.

However, it appears the Barcelona dressing room has other preferences when it comes to who will coach the team from next season.

Barcelona dressing room wants Luis Enrique

According to a report from Diario SPORT, the Barcelona players are vying for the club to appoint Luis Enrique as the replacement for Xavi.

The Spaniard had worked with a host of players in the current Barcelona setup and it appears the players would like to work with him once again.

Enrique enjoyed immense success during his time at Barcelona, notably winning the treble in 2015. He was also the mastermind behind the iconic attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez.

However, a lot has changed at Barcelona since, with the club losing the majority of the old guards, including Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique.

Can Barça sign Luis Enrique?

The report, though, adds that it will be very difficult for Barcelona to secure the services of Luis Enrique next season.

That is because the Spaniard is currently with Paris Saint-Germain. He joined the club in the summer and has a contract until 2025.

Like many PSG managers in the past, though, Enrique has also faced immense criticism. That is why a move to Barcelona cannot be completely ruled out, especially as the manager himself has hinted several times in the past that he would like to return to Camp Nou.

But as mentioned earlier, it appears unlikely that PSG would want to let go of Enrique after betting on him to get the PSG project back on track last summer.
