Xavi has been the talk of the town in Barcelona this week after announcing his decision to leave the club at the end of the season.

Shortly following the announcement, Barcelona board has been working ’round the clock to find potential candidates who can replace the Spaniard next season.

At the same time, though, the board has not lost sight of the ongoing January transfer market and remain alert for potential market opportunities.

Barcelona interested in Sergi Cardona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Sergi Cardona is one of the players Barcelona are keeping a close watch right now.

Currently plying his trade for Las Palmas, Cardona has been quite a success since joining in 2020. In just a few years, the left-back has established himself as a first-team regular.

Cardona has appeared in 21 league matches for Las Palmas this season, impressing onlookers with his work ethic and ability to provide width on the flanks.

Cardona’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona keen on signing the Spaniard.

Barça eye summer swoop

The report adds that Barcelona are eyeing a summer swoop for Sergi Cardona, rather than looking for a January move.

It does make sense given the fact that the 24-year-old’s contract at Las Palmas expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be available as a free agent in June.

Cardona, though, is not the only left-back Barcelona are targeting this summer. The Catalans are also keeping close tabs on Alex Valle, who is part of the subsidiary squad and is currently on loan to Levante.

Having impressed on loan, Valle could be an interesting in-house option for Barcelona on the left flank.
