Journalist Gabriel Sans has reported via Mundo Deportivo that Barcelona have included another German manager in their list of potential replacements for Xavi, namely, Ralf Rangnick.
The journalist mentions that club president Joan Laporta really likes the former Manchester United caretaker manager and his style. But at the moment, the 65-year-old is busy with international commitments with Austria.
Interestingly enough, he might be open to the Barcelona job following the conclusion of UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.
The president is of the idea that Rangnick has a keen eye for talent and this could work very well in the favour of the team.
Furthermore, Laporta’s admiration for the 65-year-old stems from the fact that he is considered a master of modern German football, influencing top coaches like Thomas Tuchel, Hansi Flick, and Jurgen Klopp, who are all on Barcelona’s radar.
Will Rangnick suit Barcelona?
Rangnick’s playing style is extremely dynamic and loves to incorporate extreme energy and physical brute in his approach. As such, he is known to focus on coordinated defensive pressure as a strategy to attack.
For what it is worth, while his Manchester United tenure was not as successful as he would have hoped, teams following Rangnick’s ideas have achieved significant success, with Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea winning recent UEFA Champions Leagues.
On the other hand, while his philosophy on the field is admired by many, he happens to possess a keen eye for young talent, as during his time as a sporting director at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig, he showcased his talent in recruiting players.
As of today, Barcelona are exploring several possibilities and apart from the mentioned German route, the likes of Mikel Arteta, Luis Enrique and Roberto De Zerbi are currently under consideration but as reported before, the Blaugrana have not made offers to any target.
