Barcelona identify three primary targets to reinforce the left-wing in the summer – report

According to journalist Fernando Polo, Barcelona are looking to sign a left winger this summer and if they manage to raise funds via player transfers, they will look to sign a big name and if not, their priority would be to acquire a young talent.

Barcelona’s well-documented financial struggles have cast a shadow over their upcoming summer transfer window. As the Catalan team braces for the challenges ahead, acquiring a left-winger has emerged as a key objective. 

Are there any specific players?

Interestingly, the journalist has mentioned three names that the Blaugrana are currently keeping tabs on, namely Gabriel Martinelli of Arsenal, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma.

These wingers have flourished quite well this season and getting hold of either of them would be next to impossible unless Barcelona come up with an extravagant offer. That offer, however, cannot be made without a sacrifice.

As quoted by Polo, Barcelona either have to make players sales and if not, they need to return to the 1:1 rule which says that expenditures should be limited to one euro for every euro saved through squad-related financial aspects.

Such as player sales or salary reductions, something that seems rather difficult at the moment.

The task is difficult, but not impossible

Before dwelling into the transfer market, the Deco-led sporting department faces the critical task of restructuring the wage bill to ensure transparency.

This restructuring may necessitate sacrificing some first-team regulars, a tough decision aimed at achieving financial stability. Only after successfully processing these kind of transactions can Barcelona pave the way for securing their desired left-winger. 

Right now, the onus is on Deco and the sporting department to make wise decisions, prioritizing the club’s financial health. Barcelona’s ability to emerge from the financial difficulty and make strategic acquisitions hinges on their professional handling of these early challenges. 

The upcoming summer transfer window looms as a pivotal moment for the Blaugrana, determining whether they can steer into a new era of signings or face another period of transfer market adversity like last year.
